Country Overview

Mongolia’s student recruitment market is steadily expanding in parallel with the country’s economic growth, which is driven by foreign investment and rising living standards. As more families gain financial stability, studying abroad is becoming an increasingly attainable goal.

Mongolian students are showing growing interest in international education, motivated by the pursuit of academic diversity, practical skills, and globally recognised qualifications. The country’s relatively young demographic — with an average age of 26 — fuels this demand. In Ulaanbaatar alone, there were over 353,000 school-aged children (6–17 years old) in 2021, and more than 340,000 students enrolled in 281 schools during the 2021–2022 academic year. Of these, 38.7% attended private institutions.

Interest in studying abroad continues to grow. According to UNESCO, over 13,300 Mongolian university students were enrolled overseas in 2019 — up from 9,600 in 2014. Popular destinations include China, the UK, the US, Australia, and several European countries.

International schools in Mongolia increasingly offer modern, bilingual (Mongolian/English) curricula, often with global accreditations such as Cambridge IGCSE and the International Baccalaureate (IB and IBDP), helping prepare students for academic mobility.
